◎ Giving and receiving (1) あげる・くれる・もらう

① Giving to someone --- あげる

Ex. きのう、ともだちに 花(はな)を あげました。
    I gave flowers to my friend yesterday.

② Someone gives to me (or you or him, etc.) --- くれる

 Ex. 田中(たなか)さんは わたしに クリスマスカードを くれました。
      Mr. Tanaka gave me a Christmas card.

③ Receiving from someone --- もらう

Ex. 母(はは)に 誕生日(たんじょうび)プレゼントを もらいました。
     I received a birthday present from my mother.

活用(かつよう、Conjugation)
例(れい)  Examples:     

*i-adjectives: 大(おお)きい(big)、 寒(さむ)い(cold)

non-past-negative: おおきいじゃない(です) ⇒ おおきない(です) (It is not big)
                          : さむいじゃない ⇒ さむない  (It is not cold)

past-affirmative: おおきいだった ⇒ おおきかった (It was big)
               : さむいだった ⇒ さむかった   (It was cold)

*na-adjectives: 嫌(いや)な(unwilling, reluctant)、好(す)きな(to be fond of)

non-past-affirmative: いやです ⇒ いやです (I'm reluctant)
non-past-negative: すきないです ⇒ すきじゃないです (I don't like)

例(れい)  Examples:      

暑(あつ)い夏(なつ) ⇒ あつい(i-adj) + なつ               a hot summer
高(たか)い時計(とけい) ⇒ たかい(i-adj) + とけい      an expensive watch
古(ふる)い家(うち) ⇒ ふるい(i-adj) + うち             an old house
有名(ゆうめい)(ひと)⇒ ゆうめいな(na-adj) + 人     a famous person

★When an adjective is put before a noun to modify it, the 'plain-non-past' form is used as follows:

i-adjective:  おもしろい 映画(えいが)                 an interesting movie

How to describe activities (Encore) 1:

 おべんとうを たべます。Obento o tabemasu       (I eat a boxed lunch.)
テレビを みます。Terebi o mimasu                     (I watch TV.)
くつを かいます。Kutsu o kaimasu.                    (I buy shoes.)
おんがくを ききます。Ongaku o kikimasu.           (I listen to music.)
しんぶんを よみます。Shinbun o yomimasu.        (I read a newspaper.)
ビールを のみます。 Biiru o nomimasu.               (I drink beer.)
しゃしんを とります。Shashin o torimasu.          (I take a photograph.)
ともだちに あいます。Tomodachi ni aimasu.        (I meet a friend.)
