Conjugation Pattern of な (na)-adjectives

◎present affirmative: げんき　です　-- I am healthy.　
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　(genki desu)

◎present negative: げんき　じゃないです--I'm not healthy.　
　　　　　　　　　　　　　(genki ja naidesu)
                            げんき　じゃありません　　
　　　　　　　　　　　　　(genki ja arimasen)

◎past affirmative: げんき　でした　-- I was healthy　
　　　　　　　　　　　　(genki deshita)

Conjugation Pattern of い (i)-adjectives

◎present affirmative: さむいです　(samui desu)-- It is cold.

◎present negative: さむくないです　　　(samu ku nai desu)-- It is not cold.
                        さむくありません    (samu ku arimasen)

◎past affirmative: さむかったです       (samu katta desu)-- It was cold.
                       さむくありません     (samu ku arimasen)

◎past negative: さむくなかったです　　 (samu ku nakatta desu)-- It was not cold.
                    さむくありませんでした　(samu ku arimasen deshita)
   

"Te-form" of Verbs (4)

Serial Action

・　ほんやに　いって、　じしょを　かいます。
   (Honya ni itte, jisho o kaimasu-- I go to the bookstore and buy a dictionary.)
・　ケーキを　かって、ともだちの　うちに　いきました。
  (Keeki o katte, tomodachi no uchi ni ikimashita--I bought cakes and went to my friend's house.)
・　ともだちを　よんで、パーティを　します。
  (Tomodachi o yonde, paatii o shimasu-- I invite my friends and have a party.)

Te-form of Verbs (3)

★　te-form + も　いいです (mo iidesu--You may do)
 or いいですか（iidesu ka--May I do ～ ?)
Example:
テレビを　みても　いいですか。
 (Terebi o mite-mo iidesu ka--May I watch TV?)
パソコンを　つかっても　いいですか。
(Pasokon o tsukatte-mo iidesu ka--May I use the PC?)
★　te-form + は　いけません (wa ikemasen--You must not do ～.)
がっこうで　たばこを　すっては　いけません。
(Gakkoo de tabako o sutte-wa ikemasen-- You must not smoke at school.)
ここで　おさけを　のんでは　いけません。
(Koko de osake o nonde-wa ikemasen-- You must not drink alcohol here.)
  

"Te-from" of Verbs (2)

irregular-verb　する (suru) to do　　　→ 　して (shi-te)
              結婚する(kekkon suru) →　結婚して (kekkon shite)
ru-verb 　寝る（neru)　to sleep         →　寝て(ne-te)
              考える (kangaeru) to think　→　考えて(kangae-te)
　　　　　　教える (oshieru)　　　　　　　→　教えて (oshiete)
u-verb    買う (kau)  to buy　　　　　　→　買って (katte)
             読む (yomu)  to read　　　　→　読んで (yonde)
　　　　　　話す (hanasu) to talk　　　　→　話して (hanashite)

★te-form + いるーいます (imasu)

1. indicating that the action is in progress

山田さんは　寝て　います。
(Yamada-san wa nete imasu) Mr. Yamada is sleeping.


2. to tell what one does

私は　英語を　教えて　います。
Watashi wa eigo o oshiete imasu. I teach English.

3. to tell the state/situation of a person/thing

姉は　結婚して　います。
(Ane wa kekkon shite imasu) My elder sister is married.

あげます(agemasu) to give,　もらいます(moraimasu) to receive (present form)
あげました(agemashita) gave, もらいました(moraimashita) received (past form)

★さくらちゃんは　母の日に　お母さんに　カーネーションを　あげました。
  (Sakura-chan wa haha no hi ni okaasan ni kaaneeshon o agamashita.
  Sakura gave carnations to her mother on Mother's Day.
☆お母さんは　母の日に　さくらちゃんから　カーネーションを　もらいました。
  (okaasan wa haha no hi ni sakura-chan kara kaaneeshon o moraimashita.
  Mother received carnations from Kakura on Mother's Day.

★結衣ちゃんは　バレンタインデーに　哲也くんに　チョコレートを　あげました。
　(Yui-chan wa barentain dee ni Tetsuya-kun ni chokoreeto o agemashita)
　Yui gave chocolate to Tetsuya on Valentine's Day
☆哲也くんは　バレンタインデーに　結衣ちゃんから　チョコレートを　もらいました。
　(Tetsuya-kun wa barentain dee ni Yui-chan kara chokoreeto o moraimashita)
